Jean Auguste Dominque Ingres

Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres

Ingre was a French painter that was born on August, 1780. He were introduced to art at early age because his father was a mediocre artist and passed the talent to his son. His studies were about fine arts and when he was a teen he went to Paris to study at David`s studio. He also went to scholarship to study at Academie de France in Rome. At 19 years old Ingres had already good ability to create fine art works and knows enough about history of art. The painter was from the neoclassical period and he is popular for conventional portraits and natural state women. At age 40 Ingres switched to classic conventional style. In 1825 he decided to share his talent by teaching in huge studio in Paris. He managed to exhibit a lot of his work in museums around the world. Ingres was also professor and president in his life and was blamed of enforcing others to do his personal style on the whole school. His artistic carrier influenced al lot of artists both many years ago and in the modern life we are living. He died at the age of 87 on 14th January, 1876.

The artwork is made by Ingres named La Grande Odalisque. It was made in 1814 and it`s media used is oil on canvas. It is situated at Musée du Louvre It was made in Romanticism period. This art work is exotic because of the things she has around like the feathers, the satin curtains and the hat ornaments she is wearing.  . It has a great attention to detail. It is a realistic painting but the proportions are not real. The woman is elongated to show a sense of strength, legend and defines. The background is giving contrast with her skin tone. She has a look of innocence so the model is probably young. The elite body is a sign of offer to someone or to god. There are tones of colours and light reflecting especially on her body. The black and blue curtains are slightly blending. The focus point of the painting is surely the woman's body

This painting is made by Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani and was named "Reclining nude". He used oil on canvas. As you look at it you will realize that it is influenced by La Grande Odalisque. Comparing to La grande Odalisque it is elongated in the back and pelvic areas way a bit more. It has less details and realistic look. The hips are really cured, are exaggerated in scale and form. It gives a feeling of tranquillity because of the way the is posing. These two has the elongation pose, nudity and the use of pillow in common. There is less tone, shades and details in this painting. the background is still giving live to the painting because of contrast, There are curved implied lines to define 2d art work The model looks like she is sleeping.

History of Design-Christian Dior

Christian Dior

He was born in Granville on the 21st of January 1905. Christian Dior was formed by many great artists. Christian Dior himself always wanted to be part of the artistic movement but his parents rejected to send him to schools that consists of art and design because the lack of jobs. He respected their opinion but still chased his dream. In 1928 Christian`s dad opened an art gallery in Paris only for him. Now a day he is known for the popular title he managed to achieve in fashion industry. He started to live in Paris at the age of 5 years. Pablo Picasso was one of the famous artists that sold Dior`s work from his early carrier. His art gallery had to be closed in 1929 due to a huge depression. He began to work as a fashion designer with Robert Piquet which allowed him to collect some experience in the industry. Dior began as a fashion designer who manufactured and sold clothes in Lucien Long were he was main designer. The last achievement Christian Dior does was released on the cover of time magazine and after he died at the age of 52 on 23rd October,1957

In 1940`s and 1950`s started to occur an after war fashion. Some of the designs that were created are still in fashion today. The artists today use the same structures of skirts of that time but transform it to become more original for today. Christian Diors aim was to bring back France`s world wide outstanding fashion industry after war.

Post-war

This is made by Christian Dior in 1947 which was stored in Paris in 1996. It is bar suit from the New look Collection. I can see a pleated hip area smart jacket with buttons starting from the bust till waist, The full three quarters skirt is giving contrast because it is black. He mostly emphasized on the bust area because it is fitted to show curves of a woman. He also wanted to add volume on the hips for more curves . It was meant to give a message of strength, elegance and richness to the model. The gloves and shoes she is wearing are petite and elegant. the hat is showing that it is made for morning dressing. The skirt is pleated to give extreme elegance and posh look. The hat is reminding me of traditional Chinese hat because its form.

After suffering from a fix allowance on fabric in war time Doir wanted to create a new and original change with the fabric allocated after war time. After war the women was nearly forced to stay at home doing housework and the flowery and over decorated fashion were supported completely in western countries.  The bar suit is the main suit in that time. Dior wanted to remove flowery and over decorated suits and because of that he were criticised as bad taste.

After the 1947 collection Dior started to use much more fabric to make richer clothing. He started to amplify the hourglass curve by using a lot of material layers on the waist to make it look wasp. He used to add padding`s in some areas for more volume.

Today
This was inspired from bar suit from Christian Dior New look collection. It was made in 2013 inspired from late 40`s. It is made by Bill Gaytten which is spreading inspirations from John Galliano. who was in Christian Dior team as a talented designer. The colour he used is vibrant and stands out. He used a darker tone of red for the shoes. Although it is still elegant it is not elegant as the original one. He added a double pleated jacket on the hip area and reduced the buttons. He still focused a lot on the upper area of the body because automatically your eyes goes on the jacket. He removed the bulky neck and made it simpler. The designer  also added a belt on the waist to focus on the curved area of the waist itself. The skirt is summery in material  and lifted up like ballerina style.

Although it is an original design it is still influenced from Dior`s work. The designer tried to leave the waist tiny as possible like Dior used to do. Bill Gaytten left the skirt lifted like the original bar suit. It is clearly influenced from antique time and the bar suit will surly complete to influence all the future designers.

After the post war influences completed to be shown in the fashion industry. Although they try to change the prints and the way they look they still clearly show that the designers became influenced by Christian Dior`s work. The designers still use the same fit, paddings and a lot of material to make a masterpiece.
The Catwalk designers still picture women with a really tiny waist as the best fashion symbol.

Romanticism- Art

Romanticism
Romanticism was an artistic movement that arose in the 18th century, which implemented strong emotion, imagination, freedom from classic art forms and was against social conventions. A lot of people think that Romanticism is named for a romantic act or love but the fact is that it stands for a sense of glorification. This style gives a feeling of freedom, survival, expectations, wonder and courage. An artist of Romanticism period tends to express his/her feelings by adding emotions on every face shown on the canvas and creates a certain atmosphere on landscapes. The artists of that period had good ability to send a clear message of emotion by the way the model is tilting the face and face expressions. Most of the paintings are trying to show a message that nature can cause deaths by natural disasters like drowning of a shipwreck from extreme waves. They used to portray other natural disasters to show that nature can destroy a person plans. Romanticism got influences from Neoclassicism

The name of the painting is Cloister cemetery in the snow and the artist is Casper David Friedrich. It was made in 1817-1819 and he used oil paintings on canvas. It was destroyed in 1945 and in the past the painting was located in national gallery, Berlin.
Casper David Friedrich was a Swedish artist which specialized in German romantic landscapes. He had a tough life facing allot of his family deaths and choose to transfer his tragedies in his paintings
This is a good example of emotional landscape. The scene is giving a sad and loneliness feeling to the audience because of the weather he chooses to do of a cold and stormy night and reminds us of death. The artist created feeling of fear of being alone in a place like this which looks dark and abundant. I think that the crosses are representing the death and burring. The people walking in black clothes are suspicious if they are ghosts or just people praying for the souls of their loved ones.  I admired the fact that the artist used black, white and shades of gray and managed to create all these emotions. There is a great attention to detail in fact the painting looks realistic. Casper David is expressing his faith by adding a huge amount of crosses. The white is giving some light and contrast to the painting because it is combined with an opposite color which is black.

This is another painting named the liberty leading the people from romanticism period which is made in 1830 and created by Eugene Delacroix with oil on canvas. At the moment it is situated in Paris.
The artists made this painting chiaroscuro but focusing on the women with her background light which is emphasizing the importance and looks like she is a champion of something and in my opinion she looks like she wined a battle or war.  It is symbolizing the war because of people death and some happy because of freedom. I can observe the differences of clothing styles which gives first impression of who is rich and poor. She has a slight of eroticism factor because of the exposure of the women carrying the flag. The artist created a feeling of liberty and conquering with the face expressions and some poses especially the woman and the once wearing rich with the hat and waist coat.
Comparing to the other painting here the artist used more vibrant colours and used the people to send a message to the audience and focused on a person by adding the light around the women. I believe that it is more complicated to be painted that Cloister ceremony in snow because its details. Cloister ceremony in snow tends to send a sad and loneliness feeling while this painting gives a feeling of hope and liberty which is a happier feeling.

The Group Coldplay used liberty leading the people painting in their cover album which was released on 5th May 2008.  This is a perfect picture that shows that paintings of earlier years are being used today.  The designer decided to add cartoon effect in copy of the painting and add some dripping and splashes around the typography "viva la Vida". He used splashes to complete with the war theme in fact some dripping are located over the boys gun and it is like coming out of the gun. The colour of the typography is white and in the middle of the page to be clearly shown. There is a bit of change in colours . It is edited and looks more contrasting.
My opinion: Although it is something nice to see paintings from that time in a cover photo I think it is not original enough.  I would change something in the painting itself for example the way the women is cheering to be more original and interesting to look at.
